There are different ways of obtaining flavour from filter
coffee depending on the taste. In India the most commonly
used filter coffee is what is known as South Indian filter
coffee. In this process, coffee powder is placed in the
perforated upper chamber of a stainless steel filter and filled
with hot water in a 1:10 ratio. After 10 minutes the brew is
obtained in the bottom container which is then consumed
by mixing with milk and sugar. The same process can be
used with a slightly higher proportion of water to obtain a
somewhat lighter brew, which can be consumed directly as
black coffee. The more convenient variant for making filter
coffee is by using an electrical coffee maker. It is a faster
way of obtaining brew.
This is a liquid coffee extracted very fast under both high
pressure and temperature. One shot of espresso coffee
measuring about 30 ml is obtained from about 7 to 10 gm
of coffee powder within 30 seconds. Like the speed of
extraction, the coffee is also consumed immediately to
derive the best experience. Coffee connoisseurs consume
espresso directly without mixing it with either milk or sugar.
Coffee extracted in this manner contains much less caffeine
when compared to a cup of filter coffee. Espresso coffee
lends itself excellently to creating a large number of
espresso-based coffee preparations such as Café Latte,
Café Mocha, and Cappuccino, to name a few.
